HOS

Hours of Service

In short

HOS stands for Hours of Service. These are the rules for how long a driver can drive and how much rest is required.

In plain words

It's like a kid's bedtime. Skip it, and things only get worse.

The usual rule: a maximum of eleven hours of driving inside a fourteen-hour window.

After eight hours of driving, you need a break of at least thirty minutes.

Then ten hours off duty.

Break the rules and you get a fine, and your truck can be put out of service right on the roadside.

Your turn

What's the longest you've driven without real sleep? Tell us in the comments.
